Jah Cutta Biography

Jah Cutta is an artist who believes that music should serve a purpose—he lives in and through his music,
stating, “I was ordained to sing.”

Jah Cutta has been a powerhouse in the reggae scene for over four decades. Early successes overseas led
to his fame and legendary status at home in Montreal.  Born in St-Thomas, Jamaica and based in
Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he is renowned for his ferocious live performances.  Jah Cutta has shared the
stage with some of music’s greatest entertainers, including Peter Tosh, UB40, James Brown, Patti
LaBelle, Huey Lewis and The News, Steel Pulse, Luciano, the Messenger, The Mighty Diamonds,
Ken Boothe, The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Thievery Corporation, Mix
Master Mike, Toots & The Maytals, Public Enemy, Lee Scratch Perry, King Yellowman, and many
more.

With ten albums to his name, Jah Cutta, a.k.a. Carlton Williams, is widely recognized as Canada’s
King of Reggae. Though originally from Jamaica, he has made an undeniable impact on the Canadian
reggae scene, delivering a unique blend of roots reggae, dancehall, and socially conscious messages
His third album, A Me Dis, mixed by legendary Jamaican producer Bobby Digital, solidified his
reputation as a powerful and versatile artist, with tracks ranging from uplifting tributes to Rastafari to
hard-hitting social commentary.

Jah Cutta released the best album of his storied 49-year career, Ladies and Gentlemen, featuring the
powerful track "Jah World", a reminder that we live in a world with love to give, living in God's world.

Shortly after its release, tragedy struck when Cutta and his band’s tour van hit an icy patch on a
Saskatchewan highway en route to Winnipeg. The van crashed into a ditch, throwing Cutta from the
vehicle. As he opened his eyes, he saw a Native man standing above him

"He deserves better than what he is getting today," the man said.

"He started praying in a language I had never heard before, and I told him, ‘Pray for my friends!’ When I
looked up again, he had disappeared."

Later, at Regina Hospital, a triage nurse revealed an eerie truth: the man Cutta saw was a pastor who
had passed away on that very stretch of road—a place where he now watches over and blesses
accident victims.

Now, Jah Cutta is ready to roar once again, blending his classic sound with fresh influences. His
upcoming album, Jah Cutta Sings GOLD (being released in 2025), recorded at the iconic Tuff Gong
Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, features collaborations with reggae legends Dean Fraser, Robbie Lyn,
Dwight Pinkney, Carlton "Santa" Davis, Kirk Bennett, and Lloyd Parks.

Jah Cutta’s legacy continues to grow as he reinvents his sound, bridging generations of reggae lovers.
With new music on the horizon, he remains a true voice of the people—an artist who lives what he sings
and sings what he lives, writing from his soul.
